How does distance Reiki work?

Much like this photo of me twice in Machu Piccu, Reiki is not bound by time or space.

While most of my clients come for Reiki energy healing sessions in person, some request distance Reiki healing. This means that we are not in the same room or even geographic location as one another. We don’t even need to be active over video chat or a phone call for this to work.

How is this possible?

To understand how distance Reiki healing works, we must first understand Reiki, at least on a conceptual level. Reiki energy is universal and is not bound by time or space. It is simply there around us all the time. Reiki practitioners are attuned to channel Reiki energy act as receivers tuned to the right frequency of this energy and can channel concentrated amounts of it. When that energy moves from the universe, through the practitioner and into the recipient, their body can more easily support natural healing.

Think of it as a radio receiver who is tuned to a certain FM station and plays the music it receives. It’s worth noting that anyone can be a Reiki practitioner, there are no special prerequisites necessary.

Once a person is attuned to Reiki in Level 1, they can give Reiki to themselves and to others, but only in-person. Already the shift that a level 1 practitioner experiences after learning the basic level of Reiki can be profound, however I believe the real change starts to happen with Level 2.

In Level 2 Reiki, students receive three sacred symbols. These symbols serve specific purposes and give the practitioner wider possibilities for what they can do with Reiki. I won’t add images of the  symbols here because the they are regarded as sacred and should ideally only be shown to Level 2 students and above.

(For more information about this, you can head over to my Reiki Level 2 class information page.)

One of the symbols is known as the Distance or Connection symbol. This symbol is not bound by the constraints of time and space. It can be used to send Reiki to the past or future and is the connection for sending healing energy at a distance across the world.

For this to work, a Reiki practitioner will connect to Reiki in the way they learned in Level 1, then connect with this symbol and send the energy to the recipient, situation (past or future) that needs it. The Reiki will be felt exactly as if they recipient were there in person.

I know this sounds like a stretch and can seem perplexing to the rational mind. But the logical leap to understanding this isn’t very difficult when we consider the metaphor for love. You can love someone who is across the city, the continent or the world and feel that person’s energy even if they’re not physically with you. Distance Reiki works much in the same way.

During a distance session, I ask the recipient to find a quiet, comfortable place where they won’t be disturbed for about an hour. I will usually suggest they light a candle and play some meditation music throughout the session to help them relax. We will usually begin the session with a video call explaining how to set up and answer any questions, then I ask them to lay down and receive.

Afterwards, I will send the recipient a WhatsApp voice message recording of what I felt, what I saw and any messages I heard. I will also give plenty of recommendations for how to work on specific chakras or elements that are out of balance.

It’s overall a very calming and restorative experience and I encourage you to give it a try! You probably won’t regret it and I can almost guarantee, let’s say to 99%, that you’ll learn and get something positive out of it.

So if you’re curious, head over to my booking page or shoot me an email with any of your questions about distance Reiki and how I can support you!

Much love ♡
